If it's for hobby, you can stick with VB4-32 Bits. VB5/6 main advantage is callback support from API functions by using AddressOf operator, and I am not sure at which version classes were introduced. A good similar alternative to VB6 is KBasic, but the IDE is poor. It takes more effort to make GUI apps because of this, but the syntax is 100% compatible with VB6, and it's multiplatform. http://www.kbasic.com/

Wouldn't you think that Micro$oft would have by now cottoned on to the fact that copies of VB6 still command high prices, whilst at the same time they are having trouble giving away copies of VB Net! I hope you ordered the right one. Note that the SDKs are not VB, and the learning edition is limited. I only see two things there that are actually VB: Visual Basic 6.0 Professional, competitive/version upgrade, CD $295 Visual Basic 6.0 Professional with W2K kit, CD $895 The former seems to be an upgrade CD. So with that there's a question of what qualifies for an upgrade. > Thanks... I think. I just called the EMS and ordered it. > Earl > |
