Any ideas ? > To see if the Dia or openoffice draw support the feature of opening a visio file i checked their FAQs. I checked Dia FAQ, it seems that it does not currently support the opening of visio format but it seems that some work based on the XSLT plug-in is ongoing. Reference - http://projects.gnome.org/dia/faq.html#VisioFiles I checked the OpenOffice Draw FAQ - http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/FAQ/Draw I wonder why the FAQ does not talk about the feature of opening visio file in draw ? I searched the internet and landed in old threads that discuss regd this feature in Draw. :( I got the below link that is in openoffice.org, but it does not show the latest news - http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=49637&historysort=new But, it does show that it has been assigned to requirements , but it does not display if it is being supported in the latest version . Any ideas ? Thx in advans, Karthik Balaguru

I had some problems with Dia. While designed to work like Visio, it will not import or use Visio files, stencils, and shapes. That's the key problem with using clones and why I use Visio 2000 Pro. The drawings of equipment and boxes created by my customers are a requirement for my work. See: <http://projects.gnome.org/dia/faq.html#VisioFiles> bottom section, for hints of problems to come if you need compatibility. -- # Jeff Liebermann 150 Felker St #D Santa Cruz CA 95060 # 831-336-2558 # http://802.11junk.com jeffl(a)cruzio.com # http://www.LearnByDestroying.com AE6KS

Any ideas ? i cannot comment on the equivalents - but it is worth noting that every time there is anew version of visio from microsoft, the .vsd etc file formats change. so - visio version x is not compatible with version x+1, unless x+1 is set to save in an old format. and you cannot set the current one at work to save to the oldest one we have (2 versions back). > >Thx in advans, >Karthik Balaguru -- Regards stephen_hope(a)xyzworld.com - replace xyz with ntl

See: > <http://projects.gnome.org/dia/faq.html#VisioFiles> > bottom section, for hints of problems to come if you need > compatibility. > Okay, i checked the bottom section. It seems that with new XSLT plug-in, if we have a proper XSLT document to be able to translate, then visio file can be opened. It seems that some work is in progress !! But the link http://public.logicacmg.com/~redferni/visio/ is not working !! Any alternate link to know the status of it ? Okay, I checked with OpenOffice Draw - http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=27005 So, visio files(.vsd files) cannot be opened using OpenOffice Draw and it seems that no much work has been done by Draw on that track. In Brief, Some work is going on in Dia to open visio file . No work in progress in Openoffice Draw to open visio file. It seems tha the visio file(.vsd format) can be opened only in visio as of now . :-( Thx in advans, Karthik Balaguru
