There is all sorts of malware that can do things which isn't caught but manifests itself in this way. Often a nuke & pave is the only way that you can be sure that the machine is clean, even then you will almost certainly re-install spyware that the hardware manufacturers put on the driver CD's so that they can monitor what you do with their kit. -- Best Regards: Baron.

And it makes sense. If you have the Status Bar showing along the bottom of the window (Right Click on the gray space at the top to the right of the icons or menu items, and select Status Bar from hte dropdown list) then it will tell you something to the effect of WAITING FOR RESPONSE, or 3 OR 25 ITEMS REMAINING, or similar. You have to wait until DONE appears. If the items are slow to load, then the trouble is the server that they come from, or your cable system has all of your neighbors also online at the same time, or your memory (RAM) is insufficient. My guess is the first two, either the server or your connection is slow. Or a combination of both. The feed you get is done by packets of information, that are given a timeslice to be sent to you. You get a packet, then another packet, then another, and so on. The packets come in a timeslice. If there is lots of traffic -- all of your neighbors are online at the same time as you -- then they also get a packet delivered in a slice of time. If there is little traffic, then you get your slices of time closer together, if there is lots of traffic, then some of your time is given to the other people, and your slices come further apart, which slows you down. This is one of hte main complaints of cable system-based internet service. The cable only has so much capacity, and when lots of people are on then the service to each person is degraded. If only one person is on, then the service is excellent. The trouble is, there is no reason for any individual person to sever his connection when he goes to work or to bed and is not using it anymore. He isn't pulling information off of the 'net, but his computer sends out a Keep Alive that takes up a timeslice and a packet. If everybody is sending out the Keep Alive and taking a slice and a packet, then that's a slice and packet that won't be coming to you, so you see degraded service. |
