My W2000 server failed last week with Unable to access boot disk. It would start
the boot process and soon after the screen changed over to the Blue graphic
would BSOD.

I decided to install a copy of W2003 to a second partition to recover the data
but much to my (very pleased) surprise at the end of the file copy from the CD
to the D: drive setup reported that it had repaired a disk and a reboot was
needed. Upon reboot I found that the C: drive with W2000 was fully repaired.

What happened?

This has never happed to me before and I am just curious. Do you think this was
just a "Chkdsk" run and this did the trick. I am also surprised that this
cancelled the W2003 installation leaving my server running just as it was before
the attempted installation.
