I was checking the serial number at WD to see if it was still under warrante. It was not, but WD shows a discount for an upgraded drive. My old drive is a WD1600. WD offers an upgrade discount. I am thinking of getting this one. http://support.wdc.com/product/kb.asp?modelno=WD7500AYPS&lang=en 750 GB WD Caviar RE2-GP SATA Hard Drive Price: $76.00 + 7.00 Shipping
From: geoff on 22 Mar 2010 02:10 I've used seagate and WD with no issues except for one wd that reported write problems. The wd tools were of no help, so, I tried the seagate tools. They did not help either. I finally tried spinrite, and it found a bad sector, marked it bad, moved my data to another sector, and all was good. Other tools do this and many here dislike spinrite but the main point is the HD manufacturer's tools were pretty worthless. --g

You may want to check Fry's, NewEgg, ZipZoomFly, or even OfficeMax, Staples, or Office Depot because they often have drives for less than that. It's common for Fry's to sell 1TB drives for $80 or less (currently $77 for a 1TB Seagate, $80 for a USB 1TB Hitachi), and last week NE had a Hitachi 1TB for $67, delivered (currently $80, delivered, as is a 1), while ZZF's price was $5 less but required applying for a $15 rebate.
