Hi all,

I've had an email from Dad requesting advice re why he can't see all
of some web pages on his old CRT iMac running OS9.

I've run up Netscape Communicator on Sheepshaver / OS9 here and agree,
you can't see all the width of the page on the site he offered as an
example:

www.leea.co.uk

(The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association)

So, could someone explain why the horizontal scroll bar doesn't let
you scroll the whole width of such pages (for him) and advise re a
solution please?

Cheers, T i m

p.s. We have been here before re him (80+) still running OS9 when his
Mac came with 10.?. It was to do with how much data he had via apps
that couldn't be supported on OSX. I still can't see a practical
solution as he would still insist on running his system as was,
wouldn't want 'another machine' (including a MacBook) and I can't see
an iPad being acceptable because it's too far from what he's used to
and needs. Two Mac Minis with one running a duplicate of his OS9 and
another on OSX with a KVM might do it but any such solution would be
rules out as he doesn't think he'll be here at the end of the week
(and to be fair he isn't very well atm). ;-(

The best solution as I see it would be for him to be able to run OSX
in a VM on OS9 (so his base system stays 'as is') or I guess at a
pinch, OS9 in a VM under OSX? I think we did discuss here the idea of
an external drive for OSX but I really don't want to go there (both
because of my lack of Mac skill plus the risk of him getting upset or
frustrated by any of this).

Looks ugly but readable in iCab 2.9.9 on MacOS 9.1. Netscape
is the problem.

Brilliant thanks, I'll feed that back (I did put iCab on there at one
point but I'm not sure he's ever used it or knows where it is, we'll
see).

Reply.

"I have found the iCab icon and clicked on it.
I get a blank page headed "Untitled".

Father"

I hope by that he means there is just no homepage set?

I've replied including a screenshot of iCab on Sheepshaver with his
website open in case 'you probably need to type the address you want
into the bit where it says 'URL' at the top' doesn't work. ;-)
