From: Max on 17 May 2010 03:24 Hello, I had to change my PC and bought an HP with Win7 64 home premium. I installed a PCI to Parallel and serial card inside. Now I have some old hardware with no driver for Win7 neither for 64bit OS and I thought to install VirtualPC to enable an XP 32bit OS. The problem is that I can share the serial ports but no matter to see the parallel port in the virtual machine. Do you know what is wrong or if ther is another good solution for this hint? Thanks in advance Max
From: Dominic Payer on 17 May 2010 05:38 With Microsoft Windows Virtual PC there is only access to serial and USB ports in a virtual machine. If you use Virtualbox or VMware Player you can access parallel ports on the host machine. From: Charlie Russel - MVP on 17 May 2010 08:54 MS virtualization products do not support a virtual parallel port. There are lots of possible workarounds, however. VMWare or VirtualBox both support a virtual parallel port. Or, a far better solution, is an inexpensive network print server with one or more parallel port outputs. I far prefer a network solution, since it has far less overhead on your host and is more platform independent. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/russel "Max" <massimiliano.castelletto(a)gmail.com> wrote in message news:O1XHNIZ9KHA.4768(a)TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Hello, > > I had to change my PC and bought an HP with Win7 64 home premium. > I installed a PCI to Parallel and serial card inside. > Now I have some old hardware with no driver for Win7 neither for 64bit OS > and I thought to install VirtualPC to enable an XP 32bit OS. > The problem is that I can share the serial ports but no matter to see the > parallel port in the virtual machine. > Do you know what is wrong or if ther is another good solution for this > hint? > > Thanks in advance > Max >

Max, I cannot refrain from asking... Which is that "old hardware" (make, model) that you connect to the parallel port? I may assume it is a printer but it could also be a scanner, a zip drive, etc. Some workaround might show up if you give us the details. :) Carlos "Max" wrote: > thanks, I will try Virtualbox and /or WMware > > Max > > > "Max" <massimiliano.castelletto(a)gmail.com> ha scritto nel messaggio > news:O1XHNIZ9KHA.4768(a)TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > > Hello, > > > > I had to change my PC and bought an HP with Win7 64 home premium. > > I installed a PCI to Parallel and serial card inside. > > Now I have some old hardware with no driver for Win7 neither for 64bit OS > > and I thought to install VirtualPC to enable an XP 32bit OS. > > The problem is that I can share the serial ports but no matter to see the > > parallel port in the virtual machine. > > Do you know what is wrong or if ther is another good solution for this > > hint? > > > > Thanks in advance > > Max > > > > > . > |
