Correlation between number of programs installed and performan Not able to comment on NAV 2009, but anything described as an "Internet Security Suite" is, in my experience, bound to be a source of trouble. This doesn't only apply to Norton, but NIS and 360 are definitely ones to avoid. Sadly, many of the alternative offerings are now sprouting Internet filters, content ... 25 Jan 2010 17:23
Set program access and defaults Using XP Prof SP3, I have IE8 and Firefox 3.5.7 on board. The "set program access and defaults" appears to accept my instructions to make IE8 my default browser, but immediately defaults back to Firefox, even if I tell it not to enable access to Firefox. The effect is the same at Custom or Microsoft settings, s... 23 Jan 2010 07:40
What do commercial 'performance cleanup tools' really do? My PC has been running slower over time, and I'd like to take non-drastic action to restore the speed as much as I can. I've already run a registry cleaner, defragmented the disk, and uninstalled a few programs that I never/rarely used. So what else is there? What else can I do? I see these ads for products tha... 22 Jan 2010 21:58

Correlation between number of programs installed and performance? Please note that switching from a 40GB hard drive to an 80GB hard drive does not affect the performance of a computer in any way that you can measure. If you noticed increased performance after adding the new hard drive, it was caused by something else. The speed of a computer depends on many things, including... 19 Jan 2010 19:14

Is it safe to delete the SID with .bak in the Profilelist? Due to an incompleted system restore, the account I log in does not open the right account. I fixed it by changing the username path in ProfileImagePath value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows NT \CurrentVersion \ ProfileList. The correct account is restored. I have renamed the username.ba... 18 Jan 2010 15:26 |
