Although running XP Pro SP3 I was also stuck in the never ending loop trying
to apply KB981725. Resolved it by disabling McAfee's access protection rules
whilst I installed the update as admnistrator from the download centre rather
than MS Update.

I was able to get it to install by following instruction at:

I was able to get KB976382 to install by following instruction at:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903776

I tried downloading the patch file and installing it manually and got an
error saying drive G was not found. The link above adressed that issue.
