From: M Skabialka on 28 Sep 2009 15:01 Windows Updates said there was a problem with a driver, so I checked the item to install the new driver. The update failed, as shown here: Failed Updates Hewlett-Packard hp color LaserJet 5550 (DOT4) Hewlett-Packard - Printing - hp color LaserJet 5550 (DOT4) I went to the HP site to get the latest updates and there are so many to choose from!!! It is not a crisis to not have the latest drivers and most HP drivers / software are not a "requirement" to have XP functioning. And Windows Update does not state that a driver is problematic but lists out a revised driver provided by Microsoft, which usually might be out of date. Rule of thumb, if the driver(s) ain't broken don't fix them and stay away from Windows Update driver updates.
From: peter on 28 Sep 2009 17:44 First of all never ever download an update for a piece of non microsoft hardware off their update site. The place to look for HP printer updates is the HP website. You have the model # of the printer and do a search on the HP site http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=406802&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=409994&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=228 or install the original driver that came with the printer peter -- If you find a posting or message from me offensive, inappropriate or disruptive, please ignore it. Depends entirely on which "print language" YOU want to install.
