From: Gwyddno on 29 Jan 2010 12:19 I've read and followed the advice to check BITS and Update are set to automatic and started but to no avail. I've done all that, then rebooted, but still can't get Windows to check for updates. I have the updater set to notify me which updates are available before downloading but as I've tried setting that to fully automatic and then checking for updates (didn't work) I'm guessing that's not a factor. Where do I go from here, please? I have: IE 8.0.6001 Vista Home 32 SP2

From: PA Bear [MS MVP] on 29 Jan 2010 14:05 What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed ___? Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 www.banthecheck.com Gwyddno wrote: > I've read and followed the advice to check BITS and Update are set to > automatic and started but to no avail.
