The problem is that I don't have another server to boot from, just the
new 610 that they tell me just arrived, so I'm out of luck on that
method.

Well, the new server came in today, already have SBS 08 installed,
created the 30+ security groups, created the users, installed the old
drives in a workstation and copied all their data across...

SBS 2008 shows that it's SP1, not even SP2, and I still can't see the
dang company web from the local server in IE - it sure would be nice if
MS would recall all the defective media and replace it with media that
is updated to include the fix for this. Downloading 60+ updates remotely
now to apply and reboot.

One thing that threw me for a loop, on the View Basic Information page,
instead of showing Small Business Server under Windows Edition, it shows
"Windows Server Standard FE"..., check a couple other SBS 08 servers and
they show the same thing - had me worried when I saw that - never
noticed it before.

Dell did a good job, the sales rep (corporate) worked with me to get a
machine over-nighted, even telling me that the NEW ones would not ship
for several days, but to check the outlet store since they ship over-
night... He was right, less than 16 hours later and we had it onsite.

You didn't have to boot the server. Booting from SBS CD into Windows Setup
and completing the Windows Server 2003 setup repair process from non-GUI
screen would have resolved the problem. :)

Good info, thanks for the update.

FWIW, I think Microsoft has heard the feedback about media. I think it's
something they're trying to address, but IMO no major progress yet.
