From: Stan on 31 Dec 2009 21:30 I had to replace my hard drive. I ran the XP Home install and installed SP 1A. When I install either SP 2 or 3, when my PC reboots it will not load windows but goes to safe start. ( no errors when installing SP) I then have to go back to previous setup prior to the SP install to get it to work. I need SP 2 or 3 to be able to use most of my software. PC Gateway 5000, Pentium 4, 2 ghrz Did you install the proper hardware drivers from the manufacturer(s)? -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

From: Stan on 2 Jan 2010 21:33 As far as I know all of my drivers loaded with basic XP home edition, didn't they? I am not aware of any hardware not working but you got me thinking. When I was trying to load the service packs, I had not installed the virus protection yet. -- Stan "SC Tom" wrote: > > > "Stan" <Stan(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:DAF7C707-8404-436C-8A6B-651F5DAE5A25(a)microsoft.com... > > I had to replace my hard drive. No - the Windows XP installation does not contain all the drivers. You have to get them and install them yourself. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
