From: Jeff in LA on 15 Oct 2009 17:13 i don't really know how this happened, but i have a locked file called 'boot.efi' on a secondary drive used for storage in my mac. this drive doesn't have a system installed on it... i don't know what this file does, and whether it is important to the system software (or anything else). i do know that my system (10.5.8) doesn't want to let me delete it. what is it? is it important? can i safely delete it? and if so, how?

This is an important file for the boot process. Usually it is on the root volume in the system directory. But depending on your specific configuration it could well be that the file is on a different disk. Thus, I wouldn't delete it.
