From: Bob on 28 Jan 2010 16:19 Be very cautious if you are buying a Nokia smartphone on ebay, from newspaper classified ads etc If seller has more than one nokia smartphone listed "buy it now" with a stock photo at a cheap price then you need to verify if they are real Nokia's or chinese counterfeits that don't have all the features of a real phone. I'm guessing that there are inept people who buy thes things, put a sim in, just use one to make phonecalls and don't realise they have been ripped off until it is far too late? Be very suspicious if a seller won't provide photo's of the actual phone they are selling. Do not do any deal with ebay sellers that fall outside ebay/paypal protection eg meet the guy and pay cash. The makers of the fake N95 phones keep updating them to report the same firmware as real phone etc but it is usually possible to tell, for example the camera iris is smaller than on a real phone. There are a few websites with photos of the fakes. There are lots of fake n95 and n900 phones around at the moment. I am very suspicious of the cheap 9500 phones from Hong Kong but google dosn't turn up anything about fakes, anyone know more? Bob

More likely it is stolen phones that get blocked when they are discovered to be missing.

That's what I'm thinking too. I've bought and sold a few mobiles on ebay and never had a problem. More likely it is stolen phones that get blocked > when they are discovered to be missing.
