I am trying to roll out office on a test enviroment.
SBS2008 has been fully updated and the windows 7 client hes also been
fully updated.
I made an OU that contains some users and then made a policy to install
office on that OU with the assign method, msi is in a network share that
has read acces for all authorized users.

In the eventlog I get a warning that I need to reboot or relog for the
GP to take effect but restarting or logging in has no effect.
(event ID 1112)

I tried gpupdate on the server and the client as well as gpupdate /force
and /boot, I have the host wait for a network connection during logon
but that isn't making any difference either.

How should I procede from here??

Office is a very large program and is not a single MSI.

Proper deployment requires the appropriate supporting files as well as the
MSI, as well as an MST for office 2003 or a custom XML for office 2007.
.....and I haven't looked at automating office 2010 with GPSI yet.
Regardless, it requires creating an administrative installation point and
requires more than just an MSI.

Hello,

Thanks for your post and Cliff's input.

First, I agree with Cliff that it's not proper to only deploy MSI by Group Policy if you want to install the whole Office programs.

Actually you may try to deploy another small program which has only MSI file for test, to the same OU. See if it is deployed as expected. If the single MSI also fails to deploy, you may need to check out
the GPO and perform some troubleshooting. E.g. running the Gpresult command to displays the Resultant Set of Policy (RSoP) information for a remote user and computer.

FIX: You cannot apply Group Policy settings on a computer that is running Windows 7 when security group filters are used in Group Policy preference settings

Hope it helps.
