From: JohnB on 4 Jun 2010 12:44 I got a call from a SBS 2003 user - no emails The IT guy (kid who knows a bit about computers) tried to fix it and ended up deleting the .stm file! They backup onto several USB disks Disk contains SystemState.bkf, Exchange.bkf and files.bkf Looking at the job setup (drive letter wrong) only 1 disk has good backup and its 5 days old (other disks are blank!) Exchange job is setup as INFORMATION STORE only Can simply restore the Exchange.bkf ? (I've made a full backup using NTBackup for what its worth onto a Fresh Hard Disk)
From: Russ SBITS.Biz [SBS-MVP] on 4 Jun 2010 15:34 First Run a full backup with SBS Backup (So you have a starting point.) Next I'd see if I could do a Undelete on that file. You may be lucky and have shadow copy on that? or some other tools Then Yes you can recover but to be honest I can remember what happens if you delete just the .stm file (May want to post to an exchange group they may know some tricks if someone deletes it.) You could do a recovery store and hopefully save most stuff... At worse (Assuming your backup is good) you restore the backup and mount. and lose the 5 days... And switch them over to the SBS backup on External USB drives on a rotation.
