From: zoara on 27 Apr 2010 09:04 A few days back I mentioned that my MacBook Pro (Santa Rosa generation) ran very hot, and wondered whether the new i7s would be similarly poor or whether they'd be very cool like the first set of unibodies. Looks like my suspicions were correct: http://j.mp/csKEhj I dont know how representative of the real world that test is, but it's certainly got me less interested in the i7s... -z-

I am in the same situation, with a Santa Rosa model Mac. Would like to upgrade to a new unibody Mac, but am put off by the many reports on the web about display problems, artifacts on the screen when the MacBook is pushed to its limits by running games or movies. Look at the MacFixit website and you will see what I mean. Google with the search term "2010 MacBook display problems" and you will get thousands of hits. Do not know what is happening to Apple quality control lately. Mark-

Strange, I get 14,500,000 hits when I google with the same search term on the USA side of the pond. Quite a lot of the problems are in reference to the newest unibody Macs that recently were updated, in April 2010. According to the reports from many users, there are diagonal lines on the display, so am just going by what I read. Apparently Apple does not yet know what is causing the problem, guesses range from bad graphics cards to bad fan-speed control, which would cause the Mac to overheat, which is what the OP was concerned about. If I thought that the problem was just with a _few_ MacBook Pros, I would take a chance and order one right now. ....but 14,500,000 complaints !!! - No thank you, I will wait for the dust to settle before I buy. I get about the same if I google without the quotes, which means a search for any of the words in the query somewhere on a page. > ...but 14,500,000 complaints !!! - No thank you, I will wait for > the dust to settle before I buy. Yes, do that. Jochem -- "A designer knows he has arrived at perfection not when there is no longer anything to add, but when there is no longer anything to take away." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

And of the first three pages, exactly one item on each is relevant. That's hardly a flood. And certainly nothing like: >> ...but 14,500,000 complaints !!! Mark, please learn to use web search engines more intelligently!
