As of today, Friday April 2, yes, because that is all that exists at
this point in time, marketing, hype, hope, drueling.

As of Saturday April 3, some real hardware will come into the hands of
real people and we may start to get real feedback on the devices.

Granted, the type of people who have been camping for weeks in front of
the Apple places of worship for the chance to be the first ones allowed
into the store on Saturday to get their hands on the ipad are not likely
to criticise the unit, but within a few days, there should start to be
normal people who got the ipad and start to make intelligent reviews.

Having said this, even if a normal person gets an ipad, that person
should be given a month or two to get a REAL feeling for what the device
is like. First impressions are good to gauge if without knowing
anything about the unit, the UI is obvious enough. But given a month or
two, the owner has had a chance to learn the tricks, organise their
music/documents/apps and provide much more than an initial impression.

I did not say that and neither did I try to imply that. The first
statement was wrong: There is multitasking - just not for everybody.

No, I probably would want to use it in the garden. But the screen probably
won't work in bright sunlight.

In my work room, where all the stuff with USB connectors is I sit in front
of my MacPro.

The iPad is a mass marked product and not a niche product. I can't see the
mass marked on there sofa in a heap of cables all waiting to be plugged
into an iPad.

We techno geeks here on the usenet should not forget that most people are
not like us.

Sad truth; A good product with bad marketing won't sell as well as a bad
product with good marketing. And a product which does not sell won't have
3rd party support and might quickly disappear from the market. If you want
to protect your investment you have to look at the marketing strategy of a
company as part of the long term commitment to there product. One of the
reasons I did not buy another Sony Ericsson smart-phone. There commitment
in mid-range is ok but in the top range it's a no go.

Disclaimer 1: I do not say the iPad is bad.
Disclaimer 2: I am not saying the iPad is good either.

Indeed. I do keep an old laptop and cable around precisely for this
purpose.

OTOH...
.... thumb rives are small.

Agreed. Sad truth.

I'll say. AppleTV is a perfect example of that. Great product,
undermarketed.
