With SWMBO, we found the same - the PAYG settings were maintained, possibly by the carrier update. Jim -- Twitter:@GreyAreaUK "If you have enough book space, I don't want to talk to you." We are not alone - this problem seems to afflict 3G; see <http://www.reghardware.com/2010/06/22/apple_ios4_upgrade_issues/> In the end, I decided to let it erase and re-sync. I'm still reloading all my po.., er, music, so I don't know what 's been lost.

Probably 'cos you have 3GS - the problems seem to affect the 3G. After manually resyncing, most apps seem to work, and the Apple apps seem to have retained their data, but not the 3rd party apps. Also whenever I plug the iPhone now, iTunes tells me that the restore wasn't complete, do I want to resume? If I click "resume", it gives me the -34 error again. I don't want to delete the backup just yet in case there's a fix in a few days that will allow me to restore 3rd party app data. Just a word fo warning: the option to "Manually manage music and videos" actually means "music, vidoes and books". When I clicked the "sync books" option, iTunes helpfully deleted the 12 GB of music that I spent all morning downloading. Yeah, I know it warns you, but I expected it to just delete books, not music as well.
