I think he's using a 3rd party streaming/downloading app, in which case iTunes won't know where the tracks are stored as they'll be outside of the iTunes folder structure on the iPod. Okay. They'll *play* in iTunes without trouble, and when I do so they add themselves to the iTunes music library. This will then sync to the iPod. -- Peter

He's using a jailbroken Touch, with an naughty application that can pull mp3 files from his home media server - but can't inject them into the local Music.app to play on the Touch.
