I'm considering going the allowance route for my eldest with an iTunes
account. Thing is, I'm not sure how to limit explicit lyrics etc..
She's 8, and whilst I'm not exactly a tyrant there's still a bit of
shielding to be done.

So...is there any way of limiting an account so that it can't be used
to buy explicit tracks?

Cheers,
Ian

There's various parental controls in iTunes which can be used to limit
access to particular material. Look under Preferences.

Yes, you work out what *YOU* mean by `explicit tracks' and monitor all
use of iTunes by the person you're concerned about so that they don't
get access to anything *YOU* disapprove of.

Even if there is some sort of `keep me safe' mechanism, it relies on
someone else's judgement which won't match yours.

(Squeeze my lemon 'til the juice runs down my leg, sang Bobby P. - and I
still can't undestand how he kept a straight face. But would that line
be a problem for a seven year old? <shrug>)

Rowland.

Well...yes and no. Yes, and that's how I'll initially run things. But
eventually you have to trust the person - I'll supervise and check
closely of course, but the aim is to actually -get- someone else's
judgement which doesn't match mine - that's part of her growing up (in
fact she's already asked me for what I consider to be crimes against
music, Justin Bieber tracks. Ye gods). The point is to allow that
judgement to grow in a safe environment before it inevitably branches
out years later.
