"obvious" to me, and no doubt to Grant, but that you ask it suggests that it isn't obvious to everyone (and thus not a stupid question). Yes. > it's not enough just to edit the .config file, is it? That's right. There are some run-time configurations that can be done (see sysctl for details), but what Grant was showing was a menu from compile-time configuration. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sylvain Robitaille syl(a)encs.concordia.ca Systems analyst / AITS Concordia University Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science Montreal, Quebec, Canada ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yup, I implied a kernel compile. Maybe one day the kernel will self-compile and install itself in the background? Solve a few problems if they could do that :) With these new multi-processor chips turning up everywhere, why not? I'm not even sure you'd have to compile a kernel, might be able to 'rmmod' the offending modules? But some modules don't take kindly to being asked to remove themselves. You might still want to explore 'make menuconfig' to discover the modules names. Grant. -- http://bugs.id.au/
