From: Laura on 19 Jun 2010 16:05 QB H&B 2008...XP SP3 I have numerous online payees setup at my bank. I initiate payments on the bank website and not through Quicken. For some strange reason my Verizon Wireless payments get incorrectly categorized as "Internet" instead of "Cell phone". I have looked in Memorized Payee list, Online Payee list and can not find any reference to "internet" on those lists. Verizon Wireless is correctly showing "Cell phone" in the memorized transaction list so I am not sure what is causing Quicken to assign the wrong category. Is there another place I can look for this error? thanks, Laura

I have the same issue with downloaded transactions. It took some research but the provider sends a payment code with the transaction so Quicken picks up the code they send and it overwrites the memorized transaction. I think this is a glitch as it didn't work like that before. Not all vendors send this code so some will pick up your memorized categories just fine. The only solution is to click on the vendor name field before you accept the transaction. The memorized transaction(s) appear in a drop down menu. Just one more click but annoying. If you find a way to get it to let the memorized transaction override the downloaded category, let me know.

It is just strange that it only happens to 1 vendor.

I wonder if something is making Quicken think it is a different vendor each time? Just a thought. Plus, if you have the same vendor recorded twice with two different categories, and I think Verizon does not differentiate, then it would probably take one over the other every time depending on it's internal sort criteria. Do you have Verizon memorized twice for each type of service?

Do you > have Verizon memorized twice for each type of service? The other references to Verizon are assigned the Telephone category. I have never categorized Verizon or any other vendor as Internet. Our internet has always been provided by phone or cable so we've never used the internet category in this file. Hmmmm, maybe I should delete that category??? |
