I have this problem also after uninstalling game software. In Device
manager, it show DVD/CD-ROM and under that Multimedia Audio controller with
an exclamation point by both. But when I update the driver, it installs
drivers for SoundMax digital audio and places Multimedia Audio Controller in
Sound devices. DVD/CD-ROM disappears from Device Manager and still not able
to use CD/Rom/Dvd.
Steps I have already taken:
1.) No upper/lower filters in the Registry that is so heavily floating as a
solution.
2.) Cdgone did not work
3.) Microsoft's Fix it said it could not detect
4.) I checked my drivers in system 32 and two that are shown in driver
details of IDE ATA ATAPI and Primary IDE channel (have no Second primary
channel showing) are not in C:/Windows/System32/Drivers/
storprop.dll(primary) and pciidex.sys.
I was told that senfilt.sys should not be in system 32. At one point it was
not there but in the registry.
I have not installed the driver for Multimedia Digital Audio driver. I did
the add hardware wizard and it said 'Windows cannot load the drivers for this
device(DVD/CD-ROM) Code 31.

In my registry by CDROM in two places are two terms I don't understand.
INITIALFAIL(by reg.key for deleting filters) and AutoRunDisable(by cdrom.sys)

How can I get the drivers for DVD/CD-ROM to load and not in concert with
Multimedia Audio Controller that installs SoundMax drivers for sound ONLY.

My advice would be to uninstall the Sound Driver Software you just tried, and failed
to correct the problem with.

Then, search on your PC manufacturer's website for the correct driver installation
file[s] for your PC audio.

Many PC manufacturers carry driver software on their websites, but please note - you
do have to be carful to quote the exact model no., if they do...

Thanks Tom, but I already did that. They offer a audio driver and the sound
is fine, no problem there. As I said Multimedia Audio driver is under
DVD/CdRom in Device manager. When I install the manufacturer's driver, it
places Multimedia Audio Driver under Sound devices, and the DVD/CDRom heading
disappears. I am trying to find out why my drivers for DVD/CDRom won't
load(code31). For some reason it is not being detected by Windows. Read prior
post on steps I have already taken. Anyone got any new suggestions?? I know
I could use the XP or Resource CD, but with no access to my drive that is not
an option.

You state that you have no Secondary IDE Controller showing in Device
Manager.
Restart the computer and enter the BIOS setup (by using whatever key is
mentioned on-screen to enter setup), enable the secondary channel and
set it to Auto, save the changes and exit Setup, then start Windows .

Thanks for your response glee. I hope you read my first post. It included
everything I had tried except bios. In bios (Drive Config.), Primary and
Secondary are set at OFF. Using the arrow keys I tried to change them but
nothing happens. In bios (Boot Sequence), CDRom and Floppy disk are shown as
NOT INSTALLED. Cannot make those changes there. My pc is booting from the
Hard disk.
I read that possibly two REG entries are corrupt "Upper and Lower Filters",
but they were not present in my registry
I get Code 31, Windows cannot load the drivers needed for this device.
If I install the Analog/Samsung Multimedia Audio Controller Drivers, the
DVD/CDRom listing disappears in Device mgr. and Multimedia drivers show up
under Sound devices.
I need to find out how to get the drivers to load and/or why they are not
loading.
This started when I installed/uninstalled game software that was probably
corrupt or contained 3rd party software that corrupted my CD drive.
