This services should be set to Automatic start. John
From: Ron Patterson on 13 Jan 2010 22:00 Thanks John, It says Started - Automatic - Local System - seems like it should work - but still will not activate. Absolutely nothing happens when I click on it. Not even a dialogue box appears. Restart did not activate it. I rebooted - still nothing. Stone dead. The path to the executable is not specified in the PATH environment variable. The path to many executables are recorded in the registry. The file is found there. I know of the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths I'd have to go Googling around or searching MS knowledgebase to see if other keys specified additional registry-defined paths to executables. Under the above registry key, I have 89 entries (i.e., path definitions to find executable files). For you, what is the default data item's value under the HELPCTR.EXE subkey? For my Windows XP Pro SP-3, the value is: C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\HelpCtr.exe If you run that above command string (or whatever value is specified on your host) at a command prompt (e.g., Start -> Run), does the "Help and Support" application load and display?
