I had the same problem with Chicken of the VNC and a Swiss keyboard. It was so irritating that I found another way of working which didn't involve CotVNC. -- Paul Sture

Numerous other VNC clients are available, such as JollysFastVNC, and indeed the ScreenSharing.app that's been built into OS X since 10.5.
