From: Barking on 27 Dec 2009 01:37 Linux is not new to me but non-development apps are. I'm looking for a program I can use to rip a dvd of a concert and chop it up into the 18 or so songs on the video. The object is to have a directory of songs I can play at random when I'm in the mood for them. It doen't have to be in linus, but I'm ok with it and I get millions of responses in Google trying to sell me stuff. Suggestions? tnx b

It depends how the DVD is setup... is it one big film or has it been cut into chapters in the menu? DVD::RIP can do it if it's in chapters, otherwise you may need to use more than one program, one to rip and one to chop it into bits. -- | spike1(a)freenet.co,uk | "Are you pondering what I'm pondering Pinky?" | | Andrew Halliwell BSc | | | in | "I think so brain, but this time, you control | | Computer Science | the Encounter suit, and I'll do the voice..." |

For ripping, I suggest HandBrake: http://handbrake.fr/ You might need another program to edit the file. Bob T.

It is one of the better DVD- to-AVI/MPEG, etc. It may not automatically rip each DVD chapter into a single .AVI, but you can definitely do it by manually selecting a chapter at a time. Good luck-- Scott

I've had success with transcode - take a look at: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-rip-dvd-audio-to-mp3-or-ogg.html Regards, Graham |
