From: Eric Persson on 15 Jan 2010 17:40 I just got hold of a samsung 4g/lte modem, a usbstick which just came out here in sweden. Putting it into my debian box, kernel 2.6.30, udev recognizes it as a cd(with the driver) as expected. I blocked the cd-recognition with a udev-rule and manually tried to load usbserial for it, but no luck. This is what dmesg gives me now: [34484.588050] usb 4-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 15 [34484.721548] usb 4-1: New USB device found, idVendor=04e8, idProduct=6876 [34484.721557] usb 4-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=0, SerialNumber=0 [34484.721564] usb 4-1: Manufacturer: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS Co.Ltd. [34484.721758] usb 4-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Anyone got any hints on where to go next? As the usb-modem is new, i suppose that the product-id is not in the kernel. therefore the stick is noch recognized. you could - even if chances are rather small - try to modify the kernel-source to get the device directly recognized if there is a similar device, whose driver can be used. or you could take a look here if you want to use usbserial: http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/6573 maybe that'll help. i have no experience with usbserial. sorry, Michael. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-REQUEST(a)lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
