From: David Rogoff on 8 Feb 2010 13:44 I need some help on sharing folders in OS/X. I'm coming from PC/WinXP-Pro. I had a methodolosy in my network where I would share the same folder under different names. For example, I shared the folder with all my music files as "musc" and "music-write". The first was read-only and the second read-write. This worked great to stop unintentional modification of files. This was very easy with Windows sharing, but I can't see how to do this in OS/X. I just see the Sharing & Permissions panel of the get info pop-up. How do I do this? Thanks, David

Are you trying to share these files between different user accounts on the same Mac, or with different computers over a network? -- K. Lang may your lum reek.

Over a network (including SMB shares to some WinXP PCs).

I just see the Sharing & Permissions panel of the get info > pop-up. How do I do this? In Mac OS X 10.6: 1. From the menu bar, choose Apple menu > System Preferences. 2. Click Sharing. 3. Unlock the Sharing panel if it is locked. 4. Under the Shared Folders list, click the [+] button. 5. In the file selection sheet, navigate to and highlight the folder you want to share. 6. Click Add 7. The folder you selected should now appear in the Shared Folders list. 8. Use the Users list to control who has what type of access to the shared folder. -- Send responses to the relevant news group rather than email to me. He wants the user to select whether to access the shared folder in a read-only or read-write manner, by choosing whether to mount music or music-write. -- Barry Margolin, barmar(a)alum.mit.edu Arlington, MA *** PLEASE post questions in newsgroups, not directly to me *** *** PLEASE don't copy me on replies, I'll read them in the group ***
