From: Mark C Mark on 31 Aug 2006 21:56 I guess the key question in everyone's mind is... ....Can we delete these files? Will it do harm to MSN Live? Will they get re-created if we turn off the customer experience and why? I have 20 of these files and every one of them are a few days apart. Microsoft has really dropped the ball on this one - the ROOT Directory? Come on now. Who puts files there? A temp folder maybe, but not the Root directory. From: Iceking on 12 Sep 2006 07:02 Creating files in the root directory is disgustingly sloppy programming.. Shame on you microsoft... And also, what is the point of turning off the "anonymous statistic" if it continues to create these files anyway? From: Jelle on 13 Sep 2006 13:43 No reaction from Microsoft yet? Maybe time for a patch. I have deleted these files and no problems occur. As already noted it's not very decent to put these files in the root of the c drive. From: Dr Teeth on 14 Sep 2006 11:59 I was just thinking how wonderful life was, when "Jason Tsang" <jason-onlineDEL(a)ETEmvps.org> opened his gob and said: >To be honest, I haven't seen the .sqm files appear in my c drive since WL >Messenger went final (it was only a couple beta builds that did that for >me). PMFJI, but I have SQM-itis on two of my three PCs, all with Live messenger on. All final versions. Two SQMs get created at each bootup. The only common factor is that on the two PCs with SQM-itis, is that there is no tools > options > sharing folders when logged in - it is there, but grayed out when logged out. -- Cheers, Guy ** Stress - the condition brought about by having to ** resist the temptation to beat the living daylights ** out of someone who richly deserves it.

I´ve found the solution... remove the messenger. ;o) It´s incredible Microsoft allows software with such 'features' to be released.
