From: "Joshua Lee" on 29 Jun 2010 09:17 Question, Did I read that post right? Or am I confused? It seems like you said OpenOffice.org isn't going to continue to support MS office extensions. If so, I am 100% against that idea. BOOO. My biggest selling point when convincing people to convert to the OpenOffice religion [:-)] is that it is very compatible with MS Office. I've installed OpenOffice on nearly 3000 users' PCs now, and I wouldn't have been able to convince half of them to let me do that if OpenOffice couldn't handle MSOffice formats. The support in OOo is for the formats introduced with Office 2007 (an early version of Office Open XML), not with the Microsoft Office XML formats, so the file is not recognized as one that OOo can use. Neither conforms to the "standard" Microsoft pushed through for its future XML types, so they will lose MS support before too long anyway. When you refer to Open Office for Windows -- did you actually download from www.openoffice.org, or somewhere else? Or did you not download and install at all? Ordinary use of OOo does not require registration on the web site. Registration is needed for forum participation, submitting issues, and other things like that, not for using the applications or for participating in mailing lists like this one (where your messages are seen by volunteers, not by anybody in OOo administration). Why do you expect to log in? By the way, please respond only to the list (discuss(a)openoffice.org), so others can help as needed. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: discuss-unsubscribe(a)openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: discuss-help(a)openoffice.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: discuss-unsubscribe(a)openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: discuss-help(a)openoffice.org
