Hi there,

This is part of a recent security fix notification:

That's very good support, no? I started using slackware before 9.1
was released, the oldest version I run here now is 11.0 on one box,
the other boxes have 13.0, a couple are 64 bit.

Indeed it is. Just checked (had to look it up), and Slackware 8.1 was
released on June 18, 2002. That's *EIGHT* years ago, and it's still
getting security updates. Not bad.

Wasn't there an 8.1.00 release just days after?

bash-2.05$ ps -ef | grep fetchmail
root 1797 1 0 Jan20 ? 00:04:03 /usr/bin/fetchmail -d 900
bash-2.05$ cat /etc/slackware-version
8.0.0 (tta)

Ouch, I just missed that. In fact the good maintainance practice started
after version 8.0.

Yes, the support is good, I'm not complaining about my far to old 8.0
system.

On the other hand, the older systems are only usable as servers now,
because recent firefox and pidgin and such stuff are not supported
anymore on the older versions, and the old ones are unsafe.

Nevertheless, my 33 Mhz 486SX is still making itself useful thanks to
slackware 8.1, even though it's old enough to vote. :-)
