My Three dongle will repeatedly Kernal Panic the machine in weak signal
areas. Complete PITA. If I keep using it regular may move to invest in
one of the 3 wifi dongles instead.

I use a similar Zoom one - SIM free when necessary (it is actually a
fully functional router and can be plugged into a landline router /
modem as a backup for line failure, the instruction says. . It can be
very useful. The Zoom one needs a USB dongle plugged in - works happily
with any of mine (Vodafone, Orange or T-mobile) - but that is because it
doesn't use the connection software - juts connects by Airport - so no
data volume recording available unless you can find some stand alone
stuff. The 3 one, I understand, is also available SIM free - but you
have to take the SIM out of the dongle and plug it into the WiFi router.
