The important words in the EULA, which you've snipped, were "You may not use it if you do not have a license for the software." > IE8 is free to use for those holding a valid license to the OS... And the license, as you know, currently retails for 200 USD (and more for uncrippled versions). You can buy IE8 cheaper than retail, of course, nearer the 100 USD range. > therefore it is freeware. Do you consider all the commercial software you've bought to be freeware, because you don't have to pay anything more to use it once you've bought it?

I forgot to indicate exactly where the quoted text began and ended. The part you quoted above is and was only my opinion, based on the continued availability of IE as a download. ;-) -- Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things. - George Carlin KristleBawl's Taglines by Tagzilla 0.066.2 http://xsidebar.mozdev.org/modifiedmailnews.html#tagzilla Instabird development http://www.instantbird.com/

You know I agree with you on a lot of points. This particular issue, Internet Explorer, I happen to disagree. That doesn't make you or me wrong. We just have different opinions. The IE8 EULA on my computer states that IE8 is a *supplement* to Windows OS, therefore not freeware. It has been bundled into all versions of Windows for many years. Only since the EU forced MS to offer choices has this become an issue. Other MS freeware programs are still freeware, because there are not exclusively bundled into Windows OS with downloaded upgrades. Internet Explorer, Windows Defender and MS Office products are all updated through Windows Update and verified by MS (WGA?), therefore, controlled by MS, to some degree. Although IE is included at no extra charge, it is bundled into Vista and upgraded through Windows Update. Outside the EU, this is still true in Windows 7. -- "11" - there's my two bits' worth.
