Along with W2K, SimplyMEPIS, Ubuntu, and Zenwalk. At least for the
moment. I'm a serial installer. Oh, and then there's XP running in a
virtual machine on Ubuntu, just 'cause I can.

As far as Live CDs go, Knoppix and maybe Puppy are the top of the heap.
That's how they're designed -- to be *Live* *CDs*. The others, like
MEPIS and PCLOS and what-have-you are essentially demos of the installed
OS. That you find them slow is understandable.

If/when the time comes that you decide to do an actual hard drive
install, I would recommend you *not* install Knoppix. (In fact, I
believe Klaus himself recommends against it.) You'll end up with a base
Debian install, that most find less than satisfying.

It might be a nice distro, but:

1) Even though it found my wireless internet card, it couldn't
activate it. Same card I've been using on Windows on the same
computer for a couple of years. A Linksys card, nothing esoteric.

2) It didn't even find my D-Link G730AP.

No internet connectivity means, to me, good by distro. Well, CD-Rs
are cheap.
