Along with W2K, SimplyMEPIS, Ubuntu, and Zenwalk. At least for the moment. I'm a serial installer. Oh, and then there's XP running in a virtual machine on Ubuntu, just 'cause I can. > I tried PCLinuxOS v.93 as a live-CD last night. > I worked well but was a little slow, like Mepis, compared to Knoppix. > > I would prefer to use Knoppix as a live-CD, because it is much faster > and easier to use, and it can easily save settings on a hard disk. > [...] > I have no plans right now to install a linux version on a hard disk, I > am just looking for the best live-CD. That's how they're designed -- to be *Live* *CDs*. The others, like MEPIS and PCLOS and what-have-you are essentially demos of the installed OS. That you find them slow is understandable. If/when the time comes that you decide to do an actual hard drive install, I would recommend you *not* install Knoppix. (In fact, I believe Klaus himself recommends against it.) You'll end up with a base Debian install, that most find less than satisfying. -- Mark Warner lose .inhibitions when replying

It might be a nice distro, but: 1) Even though it found my wireless internet card, it couldn't activate it. Same card I've been using on Windows on the same computer for a couple of years. A Linksys card, nothing esoteric. 2) It didn't even find my D-Link G730AP. No internet connectivity means, to me, good by distro. Well, CD-Rs are cheap. -- It's back - http://www.webdingers.com/filelist.html |
