From: David Carl David on 8 Jan 2010 12:31 I am new at Server Admin. We have SBS2003 r2, Exchange SP2. All our phones have been Blackberry and I have been able to setup BES to support the BB phones. Now I have some users that want 1-Iphone and 2-Droids. to wireless sync. We host our Domain and website through Earthlink, MX record points to our IP and have an A record that points to our mailServer/public IP. I used the ICW to create a Certificate for OWA. Is there a step by step for configuring Activesync for Iphone and/or Droid? Do I need to obtain a third party Security Cert (I have read that I need to get one from godaddy) or can I use (export) the one I created with the ICW for browser authentication. Do I need to create any other A or C records on my webhost as currently I have our users type in our IPaddress/exchange to get to OWA, and IPaddress/remtoe to get to RWW - I know there must be some way to set it up so that they can type in our domain name/exchange or remote and I think I need that to setup the windows mobile phones on activesync. Sorry for being so clueless - thank you experts in advance for your assistance.
From: Cris Hanna [SBS - MVP] on 8 Jan 2010 13:00 There are tons of articles via BING for connecting IPhone to Exchange..not an SBS thing per se. A trusted 3rd party cert that recognized by the IPhone and the Droid, would be the simplest method Otherwise, connect the phone to a pc, copy the self signed cert over to the device and "install the cert" -- Cris Hanna [SBS - MVP] (since 1997) Co-Contributor, Windows Small Business Server 2008 Unleashed http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Small-Business-Server-Unleashed/dp/0672329573/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1217269967&sr=8-1 Owner, CPU Services, Belleville, IL A Microsoft Registered Partner ------------------------------------ MVPs do not work for Microsoft Please do not submit questions directly to me. From: Fred Blum - fill in the blanks on 8 Jan 2010 14:07 some additional info. IPhone seems to ignore not trusted certificates or mismatching header certificates and worked in our case anyway. Mobile 6 on a HTC with a certificate header mismatch threw in our case a synchronization error. I have no experience with Blackberry. To get for example mail.domain.com recognized you need to ask your ISP to edit the DNS records to point the subdomain to your IP address. Are you using ISA? If so that subdomain mail.domain.com needs to be the public address in the web publishing rule. ISA also needs a certificate made out to the public name. Can be found under SBSweblistener. As Chris pointed out there are tools to add certificates unto different smart phones, do a quick Google or get a third party certificate. If you are hosting your domain.com somewhere else and want domain.com/exchange and /remote working you need to asked the hosting company to redirect the page. Fred
From: Andrew M. Saucci, Jr. on 8 Jan 2010 20:05 A quick suggestion-- don't use GoDaddy despite it being cheap. It uses an intermediate certificate that sometimes complicates setup. Spend just a bit more and get one that doesn't use an intermediate certificate. Other than that, ActiveSync is a breeze compared to BlackBerry. If you can support BB you'll love ActiveSync.
