From: Zach Baron on 3 Jan 2010 17:53 Today I tried an LFS build. I failed (not surprising for a first try I've been told), and when I next booted up my computer to re-read the website I noticed some major problems. I cannot log in using my user account, but when logged in as root I can see all my files--yet cannot modify them. I also could not do anything useful when I finally managed to "recreate" (somehow my home directory remained) my user account. Network manager also does not seem to exist (something called "network monitor"?????? which can't do anything) and my volume control doesn't detect a sound device I KNOW is plugged in. I have been all over the man pages and info pages (just so you don't think I put no work into this) and have tried everything I know (not a small ammount) yet still nothing works. I am writing this from my desktop, meaning until I get this fixed I'm confined to using windows, not something I wish to do AT ALL. If you have any ideas, please reply. Thanks, Zach PS: I'm running gOS incase anyone is wondering which distro. PPS: My computer has no optical drive (looking to buy an external one) so a clean install is not currently an option. |
