Even the Wikipedia article reckons the Apple TV sends audio over the
HDMI connection.

I have chucked untold money at 1080p projector, HD Freesat, various Mac
things, Sony home cinema and Blu-ray. Nothing works perfectly.

Delays, aspect ratio wars between the various devices, colour space,
fan noise, jitters, 5.1 and 7.1 audio incompatibility, general
instability and the screaming frustration of trying to get out of FBI
and trailer hell on commercial disks.
