I have to buy a new monitor and, LEDs being a relatively new technology,
I was willing to shell out more. $899 for an Apple display seemed quite
reasonable. Then a friend suggested I take a wider look on the net.
Here's what it looks like:

I believe Apple's monitors are made by LG. I have all the speakers and
cameras I need. What could possibly justify paying thrice the price?

Betty-

I have an old Samsung SyncMaster 760V TFT 17" VGA monitor connected
through an adapter to the second monitor port of a Mac Pro. It has a
resolution of 1280 X 1024. It isn't bad, but can't compare to the new
Apple 24" LED Cinema Display. Although it cost almost $1000 when new,
it is showing its age now. It starts out slightly dim and brightens as
it warms up, and is not as evenly illuminated as the Apple.

I can't comment on the new LG and Samsung, but notice that the Samsung
XL2370 is slightly different from the Apple 24" LED Cinema Display. The
Apple has a resolution of 1920 X 1200. Its aspect ratio is 16:10 (1.6)
compared to Samsung's 16:9 (1.78).

You will probably be satisfied with either the LG, Samsung or Apple
display. I'm not sure what Apple's contrast ratio is, but it seems OK
to me. I think both 2 Million and 5 Million are quite good. Some HD
TVs are as low as 5000.

Just so you know: you're talking to Priam/Yugo. He's interested only in
trolling. Check out the headers.

Neither can it compare to a new LED Samsung. I'm sure the LED Samsung
compares very well to Apple monitors. I recently read that Apple had a
contract with Lucky Goldstar (LG) for some of their displays. I don't
know if this is the case for their LED monitor but, if so, the Samsung
is certainly of much better quality. I had a less than one week
experience with a crappy LG is and I kept away from all their products
ever since.

The "advantage" with Apple's 16:10 monitor is that you'll have two black
bands atop and below your HD movies, since they're 16:9

So you think that it's silly too to pay three times the price for an
Apple? Since this comes from a Mac user, I hope our good friend Ian
Gregory will finally understand that he'd be better off stopping to
watch Apple's brainwashing and get a good quality PC at a decent price.

I am just curious, how is Dell 2407WFP regarded?

With my eyes it look OK, but my use is mostly text based and not very
demanding.
