From: Mike Baker **Adobe Community Expert** on 16 Nov 2007 09:16 I'm guessing the 'Error loading' message you get is the one that appears along with the red progress bar. If this is the case then the player is already installed since the player is what displays that progress bar. The problem would be in the content. There is a way to trace the activity of the player. http://groups.google.com/group/macromedia.authorware/browse_thread/thread/5d 63976a189034b6/9575067433516a8f?lnk=st&q=#9575067433516a8f If that link doesn't work then search newsgroups for 'shktrace' and find the one with the instructions on tracing. The resulting text file will have info on what it's trying to download and possibly more info on the error. HTH, Mike ==================== Mike Baker Adobe Community Expert mike-baker(a)cox.net
From: Erik **AdobeCommunityExpert** on 16 Nov 2007 09:40 To add, if this 'Error Loading' message appears in Firefox the first time you're trying to access the training, load the training in IE first so you can confirm the security dialog. For some reason, Firefox blocks the security dialog so easiest workaround is to trust the piece (confirm the security dialog) with IE, then you can use FF for that content from there on. From: JackieMarsh on 19 Nov 2007 07:29 Hi many thanks for this information. I am using Internet Explorer and have followed your instructions re the creation of a text file. I could not get the text file to creat when logged on as a student, I suspect because they do not have permissions set to write to the hard drive. I was able to get the following by logging on as an administrator on the Domain when Authorware stuck at the 'Parsing Map' message. I know that the errors are different but thought that this might give us an idea of the what the problem is. 3:16:11.82 - SHOCKTRACE BEGIN: 11/19/07 11:24:07 3:16:11.82 - NPP_New 3:16:11.85 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:11.85 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:11.87 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:11.87 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:11.89 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:11.89 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:11.90 - PluginMgr::MigratePlayers Processing 31 files 3:16:11.93 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:11.95 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:11.95 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:11.96 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:11.96 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:11.98 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:11.98 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:12.00 - PluginMgr::Migrate will migrate 3:16:12.00 - From C:\WINDOWS\system32\macromed\authorwa\NP32ASW\AW40\ 3:16:12.01 - To \\cse2k301\SUPERVISOR\Application Data\Macromedia\Authorware Web Player\np32asw\webplr04\ 3:16:12.01 - PluginMgr::MigrateFolderRecursive Copying folder 3:16:12.03 - from C:\WINDOWS\system32\macromed\authorwa\NP32ASW\AW40\ to \\cse2k301\SUPERVISOR\Application Data\Macromedia\Authorware Web Player\np32asw\webplr04\ 3:16:12.04 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:12.06 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:12.06 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:12.07 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:12.07 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:12.09 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:12.10 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:12.12 - CreateDirectory returned false, GetLastError=3 3:16:12.14 - CopyFile failed during migration. From: Mike Baker **Adobe Community Expert** on 19 Nov 2007 08:28 It looks like the plugin doesn't have permission to create the folders necessary to put player files in their default location. The default behavior is to put the player in the user's profile folder "Application Data\Macromedia\Authorware Web Player\np32asw\..." You can create this folder yourself and then grant permission to create and modify files & folders within, or you could customize the player using registry settings to put the player in a different location. To do this create registry keys called HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\Authorware\WebPlayer\IniPath and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\Authorware\WebPlayer\PlayerPath. Put in the location where you want the player and ini file to be placed. Make sure that permissions for this location is granted for all users. From: JackieMarsh on 19 Nov 2007 12:13 It turned out that I had two problems which I have now resolved with your help. I found that Authorware was unsuccessfully trying to install itself in the 'users' network Application Data so I copied the folder and files into there and amended permissions as appropriate. This then brought up an error message because we have a GPO to prevent 'exe' files being launched from the network. (To stop students downloading and running inappropriate programs). We tweaked this and Authorware runs ok now. We might make the registry entry changes to force it to run from the local hard drive but at least we know what we are dealing with, that you very much for your help. Jackie
