That 'fixit' routine not only resets the update program files, it deletes
any downloaded, but not yet installed updates. These can be large downloads
and must be downloaded again . therefore you can still be looking at the
yellow shield for a few hours depending on your connection speed.

There is another possibility .. I recently updated an HP laptop that could
not download updates .. slightly different symptoms to yours .. but it
turned out that some crappy HP update software was interfering with the
Windows update service ... I had to stop the HP update software (in task
manager) to allow MS update to do its thing.

The yellow shield only reappeared on both systems when I powered up
this AM. The "fix" has gotten rid of it for now, as it had yesterday.
It will probably stay away until I power up tomorrow ...

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

and see which updates are still required .. go ahead and download and
install them at the above

OK, this turned up the same two updates, which I let install. I expect
the yellow shield will be back probably tomorrow though ...
