From: Steve Giannoni on 11 Jun 2010 16:57 A yellow icon shield is now showing in the task bar along with the time and other small icons. Clicking reveals the "updates are ready to install" message. "Running" the icon results in an apparently normal updating, but the yellow icon simply returns after. System is a P-IV running Windows XP home. Any help will be greatly appreciated and thanks ...

Try ignoring the triangle icon and go directly to manually initiate the updates from the start menu and go to Microsoft or Windows Update. Once there tell it to get the updates and install them. Then watch to see if any fail. If one needs a power reset to finish that too is something you will have to do. I suspect you have one of the updates that is failing. Microsoft actively supports people with "update problems" (for free) if you visit their web site. I seem to remember they even have an 800 number for assistance but they want to try using other means to help you first, like web site assistance or online chatting and such.

Triangle icon remains ... Some m$ updates will only install when you turn off the computer, rather then restart. So, try Start/Turn off computer/Turn off. Tried turning the system off but NG. Getting the same exact problem now with another computer. 2 same updates apparently install, but only to have the yellow icon return, etc. On Sat, 12 Jun 2010 14:07:41 -0400, "David W.
