From: boltar2003 on 30 Dec 2009 07:41 Hello Can someone explain to me or point me in the direction of a web page that explains how I can get slackware to automount USB sticks and other USB gadgets with a file system when running KDE? Manually checking dmesg and doing a command line mount is getting tedious and I can't find a clear explanation of whats required via google. Thanks for any help B2003

USB flash drives (sticks, keys, etc) have been auto mounting under kde since at least 12.1. If you have a full defualt install of 12.1 or 12.2, upon insterting key, kde will fire up K3b and ask if you want to mount it, then open Konqueror to view it. Slack 13 is a bit diff, but essentially the same. This requires no additional configuration, whatsoever. I can't say about versions earlier than 12.1 cuz I didn't have a key earlier and my digital camera is a PIA Canon (get a card reader!). nb

If its supposed to work then perhaps the install on my system failed in some way? B2003

When I plug mine in, a small gui window pops up down by the kickstart button to show me it has detected a usb device. It shows that kinda pitchforkish symbol for usb. If I click on it, it fires up one of kde's newer file mgr's (seaweed? fishlips? ...I forget). Do you see the stick being sensed in /var/log/messages? Is the stick some other file system other than the usual vfat? nb |
