Zsoft can uninstall apps without monitoring their installation.
Obviously such uninstalls won't be as thorough.

I use the pro version on win 7x64 and find it well worth the payment,
can't say much about the free as I just went ahead and bought the pro
version and are happy with it, did a search on one program after
ununstalling it and could't find any trace of it, so I am happy chappy
and it is nice to get informed of an upgrade when it is available.

Not true IMO, that is unless you're talking about the pro version of
Revo maybe. And if you were, it would imply that you're recommending
commercial software.

Regardless, both TU and ZSoft monitor the registry for changes as well
and *log* those changes. As a result, they do a far more thorough job of
removing registry entries than the freeware version of Revo does:

http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

Notice in the feature comparison on that page that the freeware version
of Revo does no "Real-Time monitoring of system changes - during install
of programs".

> Once a program is run, or used for a while, files that may

That's why before allowing TU or ZSoft to do the final scan, you should
run the newly installed program, shut that new program down and reboot.
This catches any further files and registry entries created in those
processes.

> Revo does a better job thaneither of those in the long run.

Absolutely not true. The freeware version of Revo leaves many registry
entries in place after you use it to remove a program. It has to by its
very nature, which is that it monitors nothing and has no way of knowing
what files and registry entries have been created by a program since it
has been run.

See my remarks above about running a program and rebooting before
finalizing a monitor.

Now I will say, that I use XP, not Vista or 7. I don't know if TU 2.35
works with newer versions of Windows but as for ZSoft, I just sent a
message to the author and will post info from any replies. He also might
join this discussion.

Two points though:

1. BB didn't say whether he was talking about the pro or the freeware
version of Revo.

2. The OP asked for freeware.

Nice comparison of uninstallers John, thanks.
