From: Kerose Woldetsadik on 19 Jul 2010 05:32 Dear matlab user, currently am developing Sliding mode speed controller for FOC of induction motor. and the rating of the motor is 500Watt, which is very small as compared to the rating of the preset model for induction motor available in the simulink library ( the minimun in the list is 5 Hp). in other word is the induction model in the simulink library only meant for High/medium power range Induction motor? Thank you for giving time to read my post. sincerely

The model from the library will do. The differences between IMs of higher and lower power are material (cost), winding design etc. related but the physics remains the same. The only problem you might face is to calculate the model parameters for the 500W IM from the vaues given in the datasheet - if you need to. But as you develop a speed controller this should not bother you though smaller motors may have a different dynamic (smaller J). So you could as well use the preset model and adapt the input voltage of your converter feeding the motor. Regards Frank
