I am trying to download waypoints to a eTrexH GPSR using a G5 iMac PPC
and MacSimpleGPS.

The first problem is the the Garmin GPS comes with a download cable that
ends in a serial port connection. I've bought a serial port to USB
conversion cable and that seems to work OK.

The main problem is getting the software to recognise the GPSr. I've
tried 3 different software programs, including Garmin''s own, and none
of them recognise the presence of the GPSr.

Can anyone other me any advice on this problem? I've tried the Geocache
forums, but no luck there.

Using a G5 iMac PPC running Tiger 10.4.11

Thanks, Peter

Not Mac but I had a problem with my etrex, my blackberry had taken all
the available ports and the computer would not recognise or download to
the etrex. Cant remember the solution but I seem to recall finding it on
google.

May not help as my start and end points are slightly different
(eTrex Legend HCx, with an intel iMini and Tiger 4.11) but I
have successfully uploaded waypoints (and downloaded tracks and
routes as well) using a generic USB-a to USB-mini-b cable and
an app called LoadMyTracks.

OK, thanks. I'll try it and see how it goes.

It's only the HCx that has a mini USB port. The old H is just serial.

I have no knowledge of the software, but you may have to configure the
ports as well as setting the GPSr to the correct interface mode, which
is Garmin in this case.
