Is there some small util that will let me change the current counter for
the images on my digital camera?

They started out named as image_001, image002, etc and I thought this
was inbuilt in the camera. When I changed memory cards, the numbers
began at image_001 all over again. I'd like to continue where I left off
instead of doing a bulk rename in FreeCommander each time so as to keep
the numbers concurrent.

Any ideas?
R.

Check the manual and settings for the camera.Resetting the image number
is an option. On my Canon there is a Menu item "File No. Reset On/Off".
On-resets when you remove the card .
Off-numbers continue sequentially

Nikon slr cameras have a setting in the menu screens which can control
this.
btw. on Nikon the numbers reset to 0001 after 10 000 .
If you never rename your pictures after downloading them to your
computer, then it is possible to have pictures with identical numbers.

| there is a file on your sim card that keeps this record. Get a sim card
| reader, find the file, and alter it.

Cell phones and Satelite phones use sim cards

Cameras don't.
