i don't get that assumption because if he meant all he'd have said all,

How about Option-Cmd-Esc, select the apps, and click the button. (IOW, Force
Quit them all.)

Well, that one is easy to beat at least:

Press and hold down the command key. Press the tab key and release it,
but continue to hold the command key.

Press Q to quit an app. Press Tab to switch to another app. As long as
you don't let go of the command key, the app switcher will stay on
screen.
