That's got to be some super substance to be able to provide a reasonable seal between the newly (but irregularly cut) original pipe and the replacement header they will try to install and not disintegrate before the relief wells are drilled. I'm not optimistic that this will work, but now we've got an increased flow of oil!

What might be the side effects of those sand barriers? If it doesn't let the oil in, they won't let anything else in either, including sea water. /BAH
